Water supply and restrictions

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Jerilderie has permanent raw water restrictions as follows: 

When it is daylight savings: 

  • Residential – 6.00 am to 11.00 am and 6.00 pm to 11.00 pm daily (automated sprinklers or sprinklers on timers set to no more than 120 minutes or hand held); 
  • Commercial (including Council) – 11.00 pm to 6.00 am (automated sprinklers), 6.00 am to 11.00 am daily (hand held or sprinklers on timers set to no more than 120 minutes).

When it is Australian Eastern Standard Time (no daylight savings):

  • Residential – 7.00 am to 11.00 am and 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm daily (automated sprinklers or sprinklers with timers set to no more than 120 minutes or hand held);
  • Commercial (including Council) – 11.00 pm to 7.00 am daily (automated sprinklers only); 7.00 am to 9.00 am daily (sprinklers with timers set to no more than 120 minutes or hand held).

Residents with automated sprinkler systems will be allowed to water outside the advertised times only with the permission of Council. Please contact Council by calling into the Jerilderie Office or telephoning 03 5886 1200.

Please check all automatic sprinkler systems to ensure that only enough water is being delivered, and that you have limited the water running into the gutters. This may mean adjusting sprinkler heads or shortening watering times.

Supplying water to the community

Both Darlington Point and Coleambally townships are supplied with reticulated water for indoor and outdoor use.

The Jerilderie township is supplied with raw water for outside and garden use and metered filtered water for use within the house.

We all must look for ways to save water in and around our homes and gardens whenever possible.

Easy ways to save water in your home

  • Keep your showers to four minutes. Taking shorter showers is one of the best ways to help save water.
  • Wait until your dishwasher or washing machine has a full load before you turn it on.
  • Turn off the tap while you brush your teeth or shave.
  • Wash your vegetables and rinse dishes in a plugged sink or basin – not under a running tap.
  • Buy products that are water efficient. Check that the label meets the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) Scheme. All showerheads, washing machines, dishwashers, toilets and commercial urinals must have a water efficiency label. These labels have up to six stars. For more information about water efficiency labels, visit the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) website.

Easy ways to save water in your garden

  • Use a broom or rake rather than a hose to clean your driveways and hard surfaces.
  • Plant for the climate and soil in your area.
  • Apply 7 - 10 cm of mulch around plants to help save water lost through evaporation.
  • Get rid of weeds as they take water away from the plants you want to grow.
  • Group plants with similar needs so they all get the right amount of water without wasting any.
