Recycling greywater
Understanding grey water
Grey water is the wastewater that comes from various parts of your home, but it does not include water from toilets. Specifically, grey water comes from sources like:
- showers
- baths
- spas
- hand basins (sinks)
- laundry tubs
- washing machines
- dishwashers
Kitchen wastewater and reuse
Kitchen wastewater, which comes from sinks used for washing dishes and food preparation, is generally not recommended for reuse. This is because it often contains grease, fats, and food scraps, which can be harmful to plants and challenging to manage.
Using grey water effectively
When used properly, grey water can be a valuable resource for watering your garden. By doing so, you can save approximately 400 litres of fresh water each day.
Remember
- Use grey water carefully and ensure it is not contaminated with harmful substances.
- Check regulations and guidelines for safe grey water use.
