In a significant boost for heritage preservation efforts, four historic sites in Darlington Point will undergo essential repairs and restorations, thanks to a funding injection totalling $25,000.
The funding, facilitated jointly by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage and Murrumbidgee Council, aims to safeguard the rich cultural legacy of these iconic landmarks.
The successful recipients were:
- Toganmain Woolshed - Fix drainage situation at shearers' quarters - $4,771
- Hay Road (former church), Darlington Point - Repair doors and window frames - $7,730
- Catholic Church, Darlington Point - Upgrade and enhance the lighting for better visibility - $4,290
- 2 Punt Road (café), Darlington Point - Paint exterior of building - $6,860
Included in the funding allocation were consultation fees for the local heritage advisor.
Murrumbidgee Council Mayor Ruth McRae said the funding was vital in preserving our area’s rich heritage and ensuring the longevity and integrity of these significant buildings for generations to come.
Cr McRae said we are thrilled to support initiatives that help preserve our unique landmarks and ensure they remain a source of pride and inspiration for both residents and visitors.
“Each of the successful recipients has demonstrated a deep commitment to preserving the distinctive heritage of our area. Their efforts will help safeguard the stories and craftsmanship that are integral to our community’s history,” Cr McRae said.
As part of the funding agreement, recipients will match the funding on a dollar-for-dollar basis and complete the projects by the end of 2025.
